Jack Tustin was nineteen years old and living in Colne when he decided to turn his experience of mental health difficulties into something creative. Working alongside Casual Minds Matter, Jack produced a music video that traces a young person's journey from crisis to recovery, using locations across East Lancashire as the backdrop.
The video features a cover performance set against recognisable local spots including the White Lion in Burnley, the CMM offices at Howe Walk, and Holmes Mill in Clitheroe. The choice of familiar settings was deliberate: Jack wanted the story to feel grounded in the real places where people in the area live, work, and struggle.
The narrative follows a young man dealing with isolation, low mood, and the weight of unspoken feelings. As the video progresses, the character begins to open up, reaching out to the people around him and finding moments of connection. It is not a fairy tale ending, but it is an honest one, reflecting the reality that recovery is rarely a straight line.
Jack said the project was born out of his own experiences. "I went through a really dark time and I did not know how to talk about it. Music was the one thing that helped me make sense of what was going on in my head. I wanted to make something that other young people could see and think, that is me, I am not the only one."
CMM supported the production, providing the space and encouragement Jack needed to bring the idea to life. Dave Burnett, CMM's founder and director, said the project is exactly the kind of grassroots mental health work that the organisation wants to foster. "Jack came to us with this idea and we just said yes. Young men in particular find it hard to talk about mental health. If a music video reaches someone that a leaflet would not, then that is what matters."
The video has been shared across CMM's social media channels and is available to watch below.
