Casual Minds Matter has introduced a new programme of support groups, offering both in-store sessions at Howe Walk and online wellbeing groups for the first time.
The in-store groups run weekly on Thursdays, covering a range of topics including grief, anger management, suicide prevention, PTSD, and general wellbeing. A small donation of two pounds is requested to help cover running costs, though no one is turned away for inability to pay.
The online sessions, delivered via Zoom, open up CMM's support to people who cannot attend in person, whether because of mobility issues, anxiety about leaving the house, or caring responsibilities that make travel difficult. It is the first time CMM has offered remote group support, and the organisation says early interest has been encouraging.
Alongside the regular groups, CMM has also launched a six-week Behavioural Awareness and Recovery Programme aimed at individuals affected by substance misuse. The structured programme covers recognising patterns, managing emotions, and planning how to stay on track.
Sue Blackshaw, CMM's director of counselling, said the expanded programme reflects what people have been asking for. "We kept hearing from people that they wanted more than a one-off conversation. They wanted something ongoing, something they could commit to week by week. These groups give people that structure while keeping everything in a setting that feels safe and informal."
Bookings for both the in-store and online groups can be made through the CMM website or by calling 01282 222290.
